Canada’s homes, communities, and industries — fuelled by natural gas
Find out why natural gas and its infrastructure are the foundation of Canada’s energy future.
What is natural gas?
Natural gas is a naturally occurring resource found throughout Canada. The main producing regions are Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, with smaller production hubs in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Natural gas is brought to the surface, processed, and distributed via 570,000 kilometres of underground infrastructure to fuel the lives of Canadians, from keeping us warm to helping us cook dinner for our families.
In addition to underground natural gas supplies, there are growing volumes of lower emission renewable gases in Canada, including hydrogen and renewable natural gas, which are contributing to a cleaner future for Canadians.
Did you know natural gas is…
A top energy choice for Canadians
Approximately two-thirds of Canadians use natural gas for heating, cooking, and more.
Affordable energy
Households that use natural gas for space and water heating save up to $2,000 a year compared to other heating sources.
Reliable and resilient energy
Rain, snow, and everything in between — over 20million Canadians rely on natural gas every day.
An efficient energy source
Natural gas produces fewer emissions and air pollutants than any other fossil fuel.
Constantly innovating for the future
Canada’s massive natural gas supply is a versatile energy source that goes way beyond BBQs and furnaces.
An economic driver for Canada
Canada’s abundant natural gas powers our industries and supports thousands of jobs.
